What is a SEER rating, and what should I look for?
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Think of it like MPG for your car—the higher the SEER number, the less electricity the unit uses to cool your home. For Canadian summers, a SEER rating between 14 and 18 is typically the sweet spot for balancing upfront cost with long-term hydro savings.
My A/C runs constantly but my second floor is still hot. Why?
This is incredibly common in the GTA. It is usually caused by older, single-stage air conditioners or poorly balanced ductwork. Upgrading to a two-stage or variable-speed cooling system helps push cold air all the way up to your top floors. Alternatively, installing a Ductless Heat Pump upstairs can solve the problem instantly without touching your ducts.
Do I need to cover my air conditioner in the winter?
We recommend against fully wrapping your unit tightly in plastic, as this traps moisture and creates a perfect home for mice to chew your wires. Instead, simply place a piece of plywood or a specialized hard-top cover over the top grill to stop heavy ice and snow from dropping directly onto the fan blades.
