Does solar actually work well in Canada with all the snow?
Yes! Solar panels actually operate more efficiently in cooler temperatures. While heavy snow will temporarily block sunlight, panels are installed at an angle, and their dark surface heats up slightly, causing snow to slide off quickly. Ontario gets more than enough annual sunlight to make solar a fantastic financial investment.
What happens during a power outage if I have solar?
If you have a standard grid-tied solar system without a battery, your system will automatically shut off during an outage. This is a safety feature so your panels don't send live electricity back into the grid while workers are fixing the lines. To keep your power on during an outage, you need to add a Battery Backup system.
How does Net Metering work in Ontario?
Net metering is how you save money! When your solar panels produce more electricity than your home is using during the day, that extra power is sent back to the grid. Your utility company gives you "credits" for this power. You then use those credits at night or during the winter, drastically lowering or even eliminating your hydro bill.
